All things we use in our daily life require maintenance. They must be appropriately stored in safe conditions and regularly cleaned. If they need servicing at regular intervals, then that should be done too.

Ironically, the bathroom, a place where we clean ourselves, also gets dirty. Not the best of works on the list of household chores but a necessary evil indeed. The groans of the laziest sibling on bathroom cleaning duty usually announce the task about to be performed to the whole household.

Dirty bathroom tiles specifically are everyone’s worst nightmare. The stains are almost always impossible to remove entirely. The backache-inducing scrubbing to remove the grout is undoubtedly nobody’s favorite job to do.

To ease this hand-numbing job, some of the helpful home products and chemicals can be applied, they are-

Home Products

Passed down from generation to generation, these have proven to be timeless. Easy on the pocket and within hand’s reach has contributed significantly to their success stories.

These include things that are found in your traditional kitchen, in the fridge, or the shelf, ranging from lemon to vinegar and everything in between. They have proved to be very effective and have major positive reviews from users.

white vinegar

Mix equal parts water and equal parts vinegar in a bowl, preferably a glass bowl, to avoid any immediate reaction. Dip a rag of cloth in it, squeeze out the excess, and then scrub the tiles with moderately applied pressure.

Spray lemon juice onto the tiles. Take a rag of cloth or a sponge and wipe the lemon juice steadily. You can add a thin layer of baking soda to the tiles before spraying them with lemon juice. The combination of lemon juice and baking soda has proven to be very helpful.

Baking Soda

baking soda

Baking Soda is the go-to powder for cleaning all kinds of things, especially bathroom floor tiles. Combine half a cup of baking soda with one teaspoon dish soap (liquid) and one-fourth cup of hydrogen peroxide and voilà; your magic solution is here!

Apply the paste on the bathroom floor tiles and wait for a few minutes. Wipe with a sponge or rag cloth.

Take one-fourth of bleach powder and three-fourth of water. Spray the solution on the bathroom floor tiles. Wait for a few minutes, and then clean the floor with a damp rag cloth. The bathroom floor tiles would look good as new.

The solution is prepared by mixing ammonia and water in the ratio of 1:2. The waiting period is about an hour or so, after which the floor can be wiped with a damp rag cloth or sponge.

Coarse salt, meaning its particles are rough around the edges, is the best scrubbing agent. It aids mainly in the removal of grout stuck in between the tiles.

Wipe the bathroom floor tiles first with a moist cloth and then sprinkle the salt, which sticks better due to the dampness. Scrub with a scrubber, leave it for 12-15 hours, and then wipe with a clean cloth.

It is a concentrated form of salt formed due to the drying up of lakes, resulting in Borax’s alkaline. It is used by adding water to it and cleaning the bathroom floor tiles with a rag cloth.

Chemical Products

Compared to home products, chemical products are less used since they have certain disadvantages and side effects. Nevertheless, they are still used in removing stubborn stains and accumulated dirt.

  1. Pidilite
  2. Urban tidy
  3. Zimmer Aufräumen
  4. Care and Hygiene
  5. Tetra Clean
  6. Sunshines Pupa Pink
  7. Weberklin Ceraplus
  8. Cleansol

These mentioned chemicals are the top bathroom cleaning products, specifically for tile cleaning. You can use these depending upon your budget, tile material (marble/ceramic), commercial or domestic use, and composition of each (or even smell), whether suitable for your home or not.

Different Methods of Cleaning

Various methods exist in the process of cleaning based on the part of the bathroom to be cleaned. The following are mainly required for bathroom floor tiles cleaning.

Continuous back and forth movement of the cloth or sponge using hands while simultaneously applying pressure in varying amounts depending on the dirt and stains.

Moisture helps in the in-depth removal of grout; thus, hot/warm water is used while cleaning, or a hot shower is turned on for a few minutes before beginning to clean, and so the steam condenses on the bathroom floor tiles, moistening them for the easy dirt removal.

Cotton Balls

These are predominantly used to clean corners as cloths or sponges are not so flexible.

  1. Always use gloves before touching or holding any homemade or chemical products to avoid any harmful reactions to your skin. People having sensitive skin may get burnt or develop boils and bruises. Therefore, handle it with care.
  2. The bathroom must be well-ventilated to ensure proper airflow in and out of the bathroom to avoid the accumulation of toxic gases and fumes, especially while using chemical products.
  3. Wearing a mask is mandatory for people with hypersensitive immune responses. This will prevent unnecessary antihistamine (anti allergens) consumption.
  4. Before applying the product to the whole area, test it over a tile patch to detect any negative effect beforehand.
  5. Do not use expired products.
  6. Read the product’s composition being used before application and see whether they are suitable for the type of tile you are about to use it on.

It is better to clean bathroom floor tiles regularly before it becomes too difficult to remove the stains or grout. They can even result in injuries due to slippery floors.

Over time, the accumulation of dirt may lead to fungal/algal growth or microbes and pathogens in those cracks and crevice of bathroom floor tiles. This may lead to unhealthy and unhygienic conditions and may even cause infections. So, regular cleaning is the key.

Always take necessary precautions while handling bathroom cleaning products. If you have any doubts regarding their usage, please ask either an expert or read the instructions.

Happy cleaning!
